Solid State Logic Launches Bus Comp Classic

By Richard Alan Salz ·

Solid State Logic has introduced Bus Comp Classic, a 1U all-analogue stereo dynamics processor derived from the company’s long-running console bus-compressor circuit.

The audio path uses THAT 2181 VCAs and SSL’s feedback-side-chain topology. A continuously variable VCA Drive control changes the VCA configuration: SSL says its minimum setting is intended for the lower-distortion response associated with SuperAnalogue designs, while increased drive moves toward the harmonic behavior of its FX384 and 4000 Series circuits, reaching up to 10% THD at more extreme settings.

Ratio, attack, release, and side-chain high-pass filtering use stepped controls for repeatability. SSL has added ratios and time constants beyond the familiar settings, retained its program-dependent Auto release, and provided a genuine stereo external side-chain input. The unit is specified for +27.5 dBu headroom.

SSL announced Bus Comp Classic on October 15, 2026. The manufacturer’s product page did not list an official retail price at publication time.
