Buyers

Ask for current photographs of the actual item and its serial number where appropriate.
For expensive gear, request a new photo showing the item with a handwritten note and today's date.
Independently verify the seller. A TAM listing is not identity verification.
Be suspicious of prices substantially below market value.
Use a payment method with buyer protection. Avoid gift cards, cryptocurrency and irreversible transfers demanded by a seller.
For local purchases, meet safely and inspect or test the equipment before paying.

Sellers

Never ship because of an emailed payment screenshot. Verify cleared funds in your own account.
Never refund an alleged overpayment or send money to a buyer's shipper or courier.
Never provide passwords, login credentials or verification codes.
For high-value local transactions, consider meeting at a bank or another secure public location.
