TapeSplitter
By The Audio Magazine (TAM.pub)
TapeSplitter is a free Windows utility from The Audio Magazine (TAM.pub) for splitting long WAV tape transfers into individual tracks using silence detection. It grew out of the creator’s work organizing more than a dozen DAT transfers of original mixes.
What it does
The interface provides a WAV file queue, recursive folder loading, adjustable noise floor, minimum gap and reverb-tail padding, plus overall and current-tape progress indicators. Inspection of the packaged code shows separate WAV output and a compilation_index.csv index containing track filenames, offsets and runtimes. FFmpeg and FFprobe are bundled.
Installation and requirements
Version 0.95 has been tested by the creator on Windows 11. The supplied file is a Windows x64 executable with a bundled Python runtime. Other Windows versions have not been confirmed.
Select an output directory, add WAV files or a folder, adjust detection parameters, then choose Start Batch Slicing. Review exported track boundaries and retain your original transfers. Read the TapeSplitter announcement and step-by-step guide.
