Polyend Keys Combines a QWERTY Keyboard and MIDI Controller

By Richard Alan Salz ·

Polyend has introduced Keys, an unusual mechanical QWERTY computer keyboard that doubles as a three-octave MIDI controller.

The low-profile keyboard uses a machined aluminum body and hot-swappable Kailh switches. Its number and function rows can operate as a three-octave musical keyboard, while nine rotary controls can be assigned to MIDI CC messages or computer functions.

Keys includes an integrated display, TRS MIDI output, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, backlighting and a rechargeable battery, allowing it to operate as a standalone MIDI controller away from a computer. Polyend is also making the platform open source for custom layouts and control applications.

Pricing and final availability had not been announced when the product was introduced.
