drumkv1 is a sample-based drum instrument organized for programming and performing percussion. It is useful for assembling a personal kit and controlling its voices from MIDI in a Linux production setup. Each sample needs appropriate mapping and level balance. The instrument’s free software license is separate from the rights to drum samples loaded into it, including material taken from commercial libraries.

When replacing another drum instrument, check note mapping and velocity response before judging the arrangement. The same MIDI pattern can produce a different balance when voices and articulations move between notes.
