Csound

Csound is a programmable sound-synthesis and signal-processing system with a long history in computer music. Instruments are described in code and driven by scores or real-time control. It is useful for experimental synthesis, offline rendering and building custom audio applications. The core engine is complemented by several front ends, so choose an interface that suits the intended composing workflow.

For a reusable production setup, save the patch with the session and note any external content it depends on. This makes it easier to reopen the arrangement on another machine.
