Open Sound Meter provides audio-system measurement and analysis tools. It is useful for examining transfer behavior, spectrum and related properties in a suitable test setup. Desktop open-source distribution should be distinguished from separately priced platform editions. Reliable measurements require correct routing, reference signals and calibration; the software cannot compensate for an uncontrolled test arrangement by itself.
A useful display begins with a clear question and appropriate measurement settings. Confirm important observations through listening or a second check, and document calibration where absolute measurements matter.
